Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, is ranked in the top five cities in India and among the top 100 cities in the world, with a GDP (PPP) of USD 83.5 billion. Telangana, received USD 1,516 million in foreign direct investment between October 2019 and November 2020, ranking eighth among Indian states.
The key industries contributing to Hyderabad’s economic growth are information technology, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. Moreover, in Hyderabad, leading IT businesses such as Facebook, Google, IBM, and Microsoft, as well as several other global organisations, have a substantial presence. Telangana is India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing heartland, with over Rs. 10,000 crore (USD 1.49 billion) in life sciences investment in the last four years. Hyderabad has risen in prominence because of its burgeoning biotechnology industry and has come to be known as the Genome Valley of India.
