On 15th and 16th December, 2023, the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC) Hyderabad organized a 2-day mediation training programme for industry members from Telangana State RERA, CREDAI, NAREDCO and UFERWAS, and other stakeholders of the construction industry.

Dr. N. Satyanarayana, I.A.S., Chairman of TS RERA graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and to bolster the spirit of every stakeholder of the construction industry, he himself acted as the torch-bearer and attended the 2-day mediation workshop along with esteemed members, Mr. K Srinivasa Rao, J Lakshminarayana, and Adjudicating Officer, Mr. Syed Lateefur Rahman. Dr. Satyanarayana remarked that the objective of the mediation workshop is to bring transparency in the real estate sector along with utilizing the benefits of mediation which helps to regenerate relationships along with restoring ties. He further remarked, “Do conciliation like it is a divine task because it helps in dealing with disputes in a sustainable way.”

Mr. Sunil Reddy, President of NAREDCO, Telangana, and Mr. Rajshekhar Reddy, President of CREDAI Hyderabad and other dignitaries of the construction industry were also present during the workshop.

The esteemed trainer of the workshop was senior mediator, Mr. A. J. Jawad, who began with emphasizing that, “Conflict is the birth of a dispute, if that can be solved through mediation we don’t need to go the court for resolving dispute,” and hence the “objective of this workshop would give a fair idea of how the process of mediation works and would provide a clear idea as to the important elements of the process.” He remarked that mastering the process of mediation will only add on to the existing domain expertise of the participants attending the workshop and will help to resolve disputes more conveniently.

Mr. Tariq Khan, Registrar, IAMC Hyderabad highlighted the importance of collaborative approach of resolving disputes, which leads to a win-win situation for both the parties.

Ms. Ekta Bahl, Partner, SAMVAD Partners, Hyderabad briefly elucidated upon the advantages of “deal mediation” and how it is beneficial to prevent and plan disputes.

As a part of the workshop, roleplays were also organized to provide the participants with a practical experience of the process of mediation.

The workshop came to an end with a though-provoking notion by Mr. Jawad, “Mediation is a mark of a mature society and therefore, it should be the preferred mode of dispute resolution rather than the alternative one.”
