IAMC Hyderabad Successfully Concludes Advanced Mediation Training for Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association

The International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC), Hyderabad, successfully conducted the second phase of its Mediation Training Programme for members of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association. The Training Programme was conducted with the aim to develop a pool of qualified mediators within the legal fraternity of Telangana, thereby promoting and fostering the culture of alternative dispute resolution in Telangana.
It was divided into two phases. Phase I was a sensitization programme conducted on September 14-15, 2024, while Phase II was a three-day advanced training held from January 24-26, 2025.Mr. A.J. Jawad, Senior Mediator and Trainer for the Supreme Court of India’s Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) and the current Registrar of IAMC, Hyderabad, led the programme.
Day 1 of the second phase began with an engaging session on the structure of the mediation process, caucusing techniques, and the neuroscience behind mediation. The discussion emphasized the human element involved in the mediation process, providing participants with a strong foundation for understanding mediation techniques and processes.
On Day 2, the focus shifted to practical application, with participants engaging in mock practice sessions designed around real-world problems. These exercises helped advocates gain hands-on experience and deeper insights into the mediation process. Addressing the participants, Mr. A.J. Jawad emphasized the importance of confidentiality, the role of mediators, and effective strategiesfor overcomingthe common challenges encountered by the mediators.
The final day featured additional mock sessions, during which the participants collaboratively evaluated their exercises with Mr. Jawad, who provided valuable feedback to help them improve their skills.Drawing from his vast experience, Mr. Jawad shared real-life examples of how mediation has been instrumental in resolving complex disputes.
The programme concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony graced by Sri Ayyadapu Ravinder Reddy, President of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the need to provide access to justice to the underprivileged sections of society and remarked, “Lawyers should strive to resolve the cases entrusted to them with integrity and efficiency. They should focus more on the needs of the parties and appropriate solutions to resolve the disputes.” The event also welcomed the Executive Committee members of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association, including Sri Shanti Bhushan Rao Uppala, Secretary, and Sri Naveen Kumar Vasireddy, Joint Secretary, whose support was instrumental in making this Training Programme a reality.
The programme concluded with Mr. A.J. Jawad, Registrar, IAMC Hyderabad, expressing his gratitude to the Chief Guest, the executive members of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association, and the participants for supporting the cause of mediation. In his concluding remarks, Mr. A.J. Jawad emphasized, “Mediation is not only a dispute resolution process but a life skill that can be utilised in all aspects of life.”
